DIY Photo Snow Globe – Valentine’s edition.

Valentine's DIY Photo Snow Globe - Girl about townhouse

Simple and quick DIY Photo Snow Globe

My 4-year-old son is without a doubt my biggest fan when it comes to DIY and craft projects. He’s always so excited to see what Mummy has made while he’s at school, even better if it’s something he can eat. When I had the idea for this simple DIY photo snow globe, I knew it would be perfect for him. A little something special for Valentine’s day.

Once you have all the supplies ready, it will only take a few minutes to make.

You will need:

  • Jar (Although it does work with round jars I found it warped the photo and Square looked much better)
  • Water
  • Scissors
  • Paper
  • Washi tape
  • Foil scatter confetti
  • A photo
  • Ribbon
  • Valentines gift tag (optional)

1# Cut the photo to the perfect size to fit your jar. To ensure our faces were in the right place I first traced around the outside of the side I wanted to put the photo, on to thin A4 white paper. Then I positioned it on top of my photo, holding up to the light so I could see the photo through and get it in the perfect place. Then holding the template in place, I cut around it.

2# I used a Valentines gift tag to cover the back of the photo to make it look neater, but pretty wrapping paper would work too. Then stick the photo to the back of the jar using washi tape, making sure that the photo will be the correct way up when you hold it upside down.

3# Tip as much of the foil scatter confetti as you like in to the jar. I used about half the test tube pictured above. I did try this project initially using fine glitter and I found it all clumped together and didn’t look great, so I wouldn’t recommend using it.

4# Fill with water to the brim, in order to minimise air bubbles. Screw the lid on really, really tight to avoid any leakage.

5# Finish up by tying some pretty ribbon around the neck of the jar and attach a pre-written gift label.

6# Shake shake shake!

If you are making this for a little one, make sure they are supervised at all times. Otherwise you may end up with a very sparkly puddle.

Although this is a Valentine’s themed DIY Snow Globe, you could of course make one for any occasion, anniversary, birthday, new baby or Christmas. Just swap the foil scatter confetti.
