Paper heart decorations garland tutorial

This paper heart decorations garland is super simple and quick to make. It’s also a great way to use up any scraps of paper of card. It only took me around 20 minutes to make. Grab your materials and let’s get going!

You will need:

  • Card or paper cut in to 2cm wide strips (1x 30cm length, 1x 26cm length & 1x 4cm length with a hole punched in it per heart. I made 8 hearts for a 1.5 meter garland)
  • Hole punch
  • Stapler
  • Twine or string
  • Scissors

1# Take one longer and one shorter card strip and fold both in half and then place the shorter strip inside the longer one, so that the folded part is aligned.

2# Bring the both ends of the outer and inner strip together and then place the strip with the hole in the middle, ready to thread the string through. Holding the ends together tightly pull them out towards you and then secure with a staple.

3# At the base of the heart hold the inner and outer heart together and staple. Thread twine through the hole and tie a knot.

4# Decide on the length of your heart garland and trim a length of twine, then thread each heart on to the string and space evenly. You could also thread them on fairy lights or use them as individual hanging decorations on decorative twigs (or some you’ve cut from your garden).

I think this paper heart decorations garland is perfect for Valentine’s day, a Wedding or an Anniversary. Or just to pretty up any corner of your home really! This one is headed for my kitchen as the colours match our walls (Farrow and Ball Cooking Apple and Calamine, if you’re curious).

Hi, these are so simple to make and would make a pretty addition to my lit branches that I have in my hall. I may have to be creative and give this a try, Chloe #BrilliantBlogPosts

Yes Chloe, definitely give it a try. The stapling bit can be fiddly at first but once you get the hang of it, it’s very quick to make.
