Until recently, I’m ashamed to say we’d neglected our bedroom a bit. The problem was I knew that we’d eventually redecorate and I wanted to wait until that time to buy new bedding. Little did I realise that this was costing me precious sleep! Because really one of the most important features of your bedroom is to provide a relaxing sanctuary that you can get a great night’s sleep in, right?
Realising that my full bedroom revamp was quite far down the list of priorities, I needed an interim solution. Something that wasn’t going to break the bank ideally, but would still make a big difference.
So how did I achieve this refreshed bedroom on a budget? The answers a whole lot simpler than you’d expect.
Drum roll please …. new bedding!
Yes, that’s really all. Sorry if you were expecting something more groundbreaking! But sometimes we’re just searching for a complex solution to a problem with a really simple answer. In fact, if you’ve seen my March homeware haul, you’ll already know that I recently updated my bedding.
Well I have to tell you, it’s made such a difference. It’s completely transformed the atmosphere of the room, not to mention how much better I’m sleeping.
So can new bedding really help you to get a better nights sleep? It can! Here’s how:
Bedding is a great way to introduce a new colour into the room, without the commitment of paint or wallpaper. The colours you select can affect your mood and most importantly your sleep. A study conducted by Travelodge actually found that those with blue bedrooms were getting the most sleep. Feeling slightly smug about my new blue bedding after reading this, although I’ll admit it was a complete coincidence.
Cotton duvet covers and fabric
When it comes to bedding, fabric is key to securing a great nights sleep. Cotton bedding will allow you to stay cool and dry on those hot summer nights and warm in the winter. It’s a breathable fabric, so it will absorb your body heat and ventilate. It’s also very easy to care for and lasts far longer than man-made fabrics – so it could save you money in the long run!
Yorkshire linen have a fantastic range of cotton duvet covers, that is ideal for summer. My personal favourites are pictured below and you can check out the full range here.
If you create a space that you love, you’ll naturally want to spend more time there. Imagine diving into super soft cotton sheets with a brilliant novel. It’s the perfect way to wind down ready for a great nights sleep and could help you avoid tech late at night. The only problem is, you might find it just that little bit more difficult to prise yourself out of bed in the morning.
Now it’s time for the moment you’ve been waiting for, the eye candy! Here’s the beautiful bedding that I’ve been coveting lately.
